A Creole tune

Bamboula, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, 1848 - First learned of this piece reading David McCullough's The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris last summer. Gottschalk was from New Orleans, but wrote this piece in Paris as an attempt to synthesize Creole and African music with classical European piano.

Views from the French Quarter

Over spring break, a group of us went to New Orleans for the Mardi Gras celebrations there. We were of course overwhelmed, but nonetheless each of us found New Orleans to be a charming and beautiful city. I am eager to return at a less hectic time, but until then, enjoy these views of the French Quarter, the historic heart of a historic city.
