Australians do, in general, enjoy their beer, and the cultural institution of the pub is perhaps one of the nation's most important. Architecturally, Australian pubs share many characteristics in common with each other - more so than bars in the United States, for example. They are often simple but dignified buildings with nice shady verandahs and hotel rooms upstairs. Here are a few I encountered throughout my travels in Australia:
